While working from home, students will be working to complete what we normally would be doing in class. Here is the schedule for ELA work. It is flexible for how much time is spent on each thing a day.
Reading Hero Unit: We started a new novel. Students will be given sheets to complete for chapters as they read students are following a schedule they made. Each student should be reading anywhere from 3-5 chapters a week. If they do not have their schedule, then they are to read 4 chapters a week. There are thinking sheets (one per chapter) in google classroom for students to fill out. They are to do one for each chapter they read. It is a PDF so students can print this, hand write answer on a separate sheet or create a doc titled Week 1 Chapter Think Sheets to type up answers in. This is self paced as they will not have to read a chapter per day.
WW 14/15: We are continuing on with Wordly Wise. If your student does not have their WW book, they can use quizlet (the link s are in the WW section of this website) and kahoot to help study. The Wordly Wise Test will for Wordy Wise 14 will be in google classroom on 3/24.
AR: Students should be reading at least 20 minutes a day. The book for the reading groups does not count. This should be a book of their choice. The second week I will post some summary activities and how to's to guide students in writing a summary of a book that they read in its entirety.
Creating Writing:
Students will have a creative writing assignment due each Friday. All short stories must have proper punctuation, capitals and paragraphing as well as a setting, characters, conflict (problem) and resolution. They may be any length from 1-5 pages as long as they have these elements. The prompt for the writing will be in google classroom under the writing category. This can be split any way during the week such as 15 minutes every day or 40 two days, as long as it is completed by Friday.
GUM (Grammar Usage and Mechanics): We will be doing two GUM lessons a week. If you do not have your GUM book, you can access pictures of the lessons on google classroom also in the writing category. They will be loaded they day they are needed.
