Track Practices

We are excited for the 2019 track season! I and  David Walls will be coaching track this year. Track practices will be starting April 8th (per CPS mandate) and will be every Monday and Thursday after school until 5pm. Students will meet in the multipurpose room right after school and will self-dismiss after practice, unless one of the coaches is notified otherwise. On nice days, we will dismiss from the field. On cold or rainy days we will dismiss from the MPR.
Student Informational Meetings
We had a very fun and informative first meeting! Students went home with forms, so if one missed you or you would like another copy, please stop by the front office.

Per CPS, practices will officially start on April 8th. Since we have a lot of new athletes, we will be hosting informational meetings for the students only to introduce them to each event. These meetings are not practices and are not mandatory for athletes, but all are welcome. Each meeting will explain a different track event and give our athletes an idea of what it is they have signed up for. These are optional meetings, but are a great way to learn and try the different events. These meetings will end at 4:30pm with students self-dismissing from the field (weather permitting) or the MPR (inclement weather).

Meet info and Schedule

As many of you know with CPS sports, we often have last-minute changes to our schedule and we will pass that information on as soon as we receive it.

CPS has added an extra race into the school year to help maintain 3 hour meets. Everyone will run at the first three meets. The third meet is the Network qualifier (new this year) and will be a meet where only certain qualifying times move on to the next meet Re.

Currently, official CPS meets do not start until May with
the season ending early June. We have the tentative dates of the first few CPS meets (which like all CPS sports events is subject to change):

Wednesday 5/15 @ Winnemac 5pm--Everyone

Saturday 5/18 @ Lane Tech 12:30-3:30--Everyone

Wednesday 5/22 @Lane Tech 5pm--Everyone

Saturday 6/1 @Hanson 12:30pm--qualifiers only

Saturday 6/8 @Hanson 9am City Meet--qualifiers only

Track overview

Track consists of eight events, six of which are running and two field events.  Some track events are individual while others are relay team based.

CPS mandates athletes participate (yay :) ) but then limits two athletes per individual event and one team per relay. Also, an athlete cannot rum in more than two events. We have large teams with 10 plus athletes per team and will do our best to ensure all athletes participate and are comfortable.

The 100m dash is the shortest distance, only a quarter of a track. The 100 is both part of a relay and individual.

The 200m dash is double the 100 and is also an individual race as well as a relay.

The 400m dash is a lap around the track and is an individual event and part of the 7/8 only medley relay.

800m run is for 5th/6th only and is an individual event.

Mile run is for 7th/8th only and is individual.

Shot Put and Long Jump are the two field events at the elementary level.
